In college, my roommate's mother was aghast that I and two of our other friends had never had huckleberries. She said "How could you girls not have had huckleberries?  You grew up at the foothills of the Cascades".

I love that quote. It's ten years later and I still remember it. We all grew up in Western Washington, which apparently meant to this Missouri mother that we should have all been raised on huckleberries.

The Newman Lake Resort and Marina http://newmanlakeresort.com and the Veterans Administration is holding a thank you celebration for veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Service men and women who served in Operation Iraq Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and their families are invited to the Resort and Marina for a free day of boating, playing, BBQ-ing, etc.
