A warning for Lake Coeur d'Alene bird watchers

A warning for Lake Coeur d'Alene bird watchers

We wrote a story about the Eagle Watch in Coeur d'Alene a week ago.  Tonight, the Idaho State Police are warning excited bird watchers to be careful.

They say high traffic in the area around Lake Coeur d'Alene is creating a dangerous situation.  The problem is along State Highway 97 near Interstate 90 and South to Milepost 93.

ISP says the area is already congested with traffic.  It says bird watchers in the area are making it even more hectic.  ISP says drivers should park their vehicles off the road.  It says any vehicles on the pavement will be towed.

Copy-cat Layaway Angels strike in Oldtown

We’ve heard about copy-cat crimes, but this is a copy-cat incident you can appreciate. Three employees at Oldtown’s Ben Franklin store got to witness the first Layaway Angel incident in their store’s history.

A shift supervisor called KXLY to say a group of four to five people came in with $200 of pooled money to pay off about five layaways of clothes and toys.

A store representative said it wasn’t a lot, but for the people that did this generous donation - it was. The group remains anonymous. Nobody at the store knew who they were or had ever seen them before.

The mysterious group of angels simply went through the lay away box and started adding up what they could pay for with $200.

They did reveal one bit of information that explained their inspiration. They saw a similar story on KXLY about Spokane-area Layaway Angels. They wanted to do the same thing and make the same difference.

Christmas Dinner, Everyone Is Invited!

Christmas Dinner, Everyone Is Invited!

Many people are blessed to have family and friends around them during Christmas.  Others are blessed to have the Athol Community Center.  It's spreading true Christmas cheer by making sure no one shares the special day alone.

The Center is once again hosting it's Traditional Christmas Dinner.  Hundreds of people fill up the Center every year.

Dinner starts at 1 pm on Christmas Day and runs until 5 o'clock.  The Athol Community Center is located next to the City Library at 30355 North 3rd Street.

Not only is everyone invited, the Center says they'll deliver meals to those who can't make it in.  It also says it can pick you up and drive you to the Center.  Call 208-660-8374 to make arrangements.

Bullets and Ink: A Man's Spin On Life

Bullets and Ink: A Man's Spin On Life

Doyle Wheeler approaches life just like he does pens; everything is possible. Throw anything his way and he will make it work for him.

The first lathe Wheeler ever received was from his father. He tinkered with it off and on, not really committing to the craft but enjoying the rhythm of turning a pen. The first ones he ever made became Christmas gifts for family and friends but he insists they weren't any good.

It's what every budding artist – excuse me, craftsman – would say of their early work.

Craftsmanship is in Wheeler's blood. His grandparents built their home in Spokane from the ground up.
