In college, my roommate's mother was aghast that I and two of our other friends had never had huckleberries. She said "How could you girls not have had huckleberries?  You grew up at the foothills of the Cascades".

I love that quote. It's ten years later and I still remember it. We all grew up in Western Washington, which apparently meant to this Missouri mother that we should have all been raised on huckleberries.

Idaho Farmers Market Photo Contest

Idaho State Department of Agriculture wants to celebrate the upcoming Idaho Farmers Market Week, August 7-13th, by hosting a photo contest. They're inviting photographers of all types to submit a photo relating to Idaho farmers markets. Their contest rules say that this could include preparing to go to the market, featuring products or activities at the market, or enjoy the bounty after you returned home.

A calypso flavored re-telling of the traditional "Little Mermaid" tale, the show revolves around a poor island peasant girl who falls in love with Daniel, an upper class boy whose life she saves after a car crash. Lake City Playhouse has theatre camps for children ages 7-15 this summer.  Beginning July 11 you can help re-write a fairy tale during this skills camp entitled "Fractured Fairy Tales."  You'll build  props and costumes for princesses, kings, queens, knights and fire-breathing dragons.  This camp is a great introduction to all aspects of the theatre and runs from July 11-15 for 6 hours at the cost of $120.  Or perhaps you'd like to work in a 2-week production camp July 25-August 5 helping the little puppet with the long wooden nose "Pinocchio"?  This

Pirates Spotted on Lake Coeur d'Alene

Pirates have been spotted on Lake Coeur d'Alene.  The popular pirate themed boat cruise for families is back for a second summer.  According to a Coeur d'Alene Resort press release the 90 minute Pirates of the Coeur d'Alene cruises depart from Independence Point west of the Coeur d'Alene Resort at 1pm and 3:30pm daily until Labor Day.  The interactive play stars a rogue captain, a bumbling crew and a search for treasure.  This year's performance features a new storyline, new songs and dances and some new characters.   Tickets are $30.75 for adults, 20
